Adelita Style 101: Hayley's Earrings

click on this image for a closer look!

Let's bring this month to a close and take one last look at our feature designer Hayley Wakefield's Allure Earrings from
MyRetropolitan. For this shoot taken by Sean Watson we combined fashion, sweets and puppy power. I love wearing Hayley's fun earrings with this delicate, lacey Ann Ferriday top and Snoopy loves Adelita Pops!!
Here is Hayley's description of these great portrait-style paper earrings: "Slink around in the image of this sexy silhouette, as you wow your friends with an attitude that these one of a kind paper lovelies can bring you! Not only are they completely bangin', they are also eco-chic, constructed of recycled chipboard!" They measure 3.5" x 2" including the circle top.
Snoopy is zeroing on the Adelita Pop but since they are made of yummy dark and white chocolate it's a no-no for dogs!

Mexico meet Avatar meets 57-year-old Frenchmen

I was compelled to write. This man knows about showmanship and he takes his inspiration seriously, err, at least, he takes it to the next level. Jean Paul Gaultier- I've watched " Avatar "and I was delighted with the painting. It came to me thinking about nature, ecology and the Latin American tropics, and then rised in my memory images of Mexico ..."

Basket weave dresses, palm frond purses, fantastical sombreros, tropical florals and metallic head gear adorned the JPG's Spring Haute Couture Runway. Channeling Frida, the makeup was painterly and the braided hair Mayan style. Now that's Adelita Style!

Alidra Alic's Wonderland

Feel like I have died and gone to bijou heaven. Alidra Alic's exceptional contemporary jewely line entitled, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" are a surrealist look at the psychedelic world of Alice. Her world is full of treats like plastic marshmallows coated in candy dust, towering hyacinth rings reminiscent of Harry Potter, a magical cup of freshwater pearls calling, "drink me" and imperfect haunting cameos. Alic's pieces are not only uniquely interpreted, they are uniquely made. Alic explains, "With a strong emphasis on sensibility I illustrate my concept using a self-invented plastic technique in combination with precious metals and stones." This woman's jewelry evokes an immediate deeply visceral response, her work is both finery and art.

SJP and STC introduce Halston Heritage

Here it is! the Sex and the City Movie sequel poster finally made its debut in December. Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw) wears a V-neck white Halston Heritage dress (available Feb. @ $325), a $198,200 jeweled Solange Azgury-Partridge necklace, and a Chanel clutch. To complete the look - Christian Louboutin gold Pigalle heels and gold Mykita & Bernhard Welhelm shades currently available at patriciafield.com.

But the really big news is that white dress! Sarah Jessica has been rumored to be the new designer at Halston for its Halston Heritage collection. My guess is that the clothing campaign will coincide with the release of the movie because of the prominence of the dress on the poster.

This promises to be a far better collaboration than the now dead Bitten collection that SJP designed for bankrupt Steve & Barry's.

"If she is to come to Halston, I know that she will do an incredible job and finally get the brand back to being a Halston that is respectful of Mr. Halston and his legacy but also move it forward to what women today want to wear," says stylist and commentator Mary Alice Stephenson. After their dismal relaunch in 2008, Halston needs a bit of magic and I think Sarah Jessica is just the magician they have been looking for.

Bachelor and Bachelorette

Photography by Kamie Kahlo

While scouring for inspiration, I came across this beautiful design studio located in Atlanta, Georgia named HABACHY. What a pleasant surprise to see my mirror staring back at me while clicking through their residential portfolio! It sort of looked like the masculine to my feminine, the bachelor to my bachelorette. It reminded me of the photos that I had taken in October to showcase my lace "Mickey" ears. It reminded me that even across the country two people could have similar ideas and make them their own. Seek inspiration and do your own thing!

Today's AdelitaStyle Self Portrait

click on this collage for a closer look!

This weekend was more birthday fun and debauchery with Dana! Starting at THE new hot spot, TOULOUSE PETIT in Lower Queen Anne I enjoyed a succulent lamb burger and delicious Katy-May cocktail straight from the bar manager Jason Crume! Then we were off to a fabulous party at PUBLICOLA it-girl Cynara Lilly's top floor apartment in Belltown for another birthday girl bash. No stopping us at this point Dana and I cabbed it to Capital Hill to dance what was left of our party girl night away at palace booty thumping HAVANA. Here's what I wore, silk cami by Korean designer MAE, a vintage crocheted bell sleeve jacket, amazing necklace made of vintage coins and cameos, my LTB skinny jeans and my brand new shipment from SHOEDAZZLE, a graceful boot with sweeping, overlapping bands for that sexy “bandaged” look! Today's AdelitaStyle Self Portrait

In Seattle (no, that is not Seattle behind me but it sort of represents how I feel when walking) you have to be committed to your walking routine. My friend Erika and I try not to let a little rain get in the way or in last night's case A LOTTA RAIN! I left the house in my STELLA MCCARTNEY Adidas rain jacket and came back soaked except for what Stella had covered. My legs were red for 2 more hours AFTER I took a hot shower. I think I need to go to my friend ERIKA'S SITE for some FANCY rain pants. You should too!

Happy Birthday Shoot!

Yep! It's my birthday!! This sweet photo was shot by Justin Gollmer at STUDIO 3, INC. The client was selling the beautiful cake stand that you see in the center. I created the background digitally, shopped for the plates and cups, provided the ribbon and beautiful flowers, bought the cupcakes from CUPCAKE ROYALE, and I special ordered that gorgeous cake from Dan at DECADENCE CUSTOM CAKES. What a tasty photo to share for my special day.

A Dancer's Wardrobe

Giggles and Snow

If you live on the West Coast there is little snow in the cities this time of year. This, of course, can be very upsetting to a little girl. But, what is unique to our particular region is that you can drive a couple of hours and see a winter wonderland. So, D and I took our Lil Star and her two BFFs to the snow. It was there that I could test out my beautiful holiday present, an HD camcorder! Take a look at this short video (if you want to see more, go to LIL STAR'S BLOG) and take a look at this darling little DXG RIVIERA 720p HD White Camcorder...

New Year's Resolutions

My New Year's resolution personally is to keep my eyes wide open for opportunity and happiness and to then be a more thankful and gracious person. In business my plans are big but have started small with this blog. The collected wisdom of posting nearly every day has been an education I am most grateful for. Please take a look at what some of your favorite designers have in mind for their new year and the coming decade. ¡Felíz año nuevo! 새해 복 많이 받으세요! Se he bok ma nee ba deu se yo! Happy New Year!

“My New Year’s resolution would definitely be to have more fun. I feel like the past year has been such a stressful one for so many that a resolution to simply be conscious of having more fun is a great one. As far as the collection, we are sort of on the same wavelength, really into the idea of ‘party’ clothes, for all sorts of occasions, and party clothes for day that you can mix into your wardrobe. Special, unique pieces that revolutionize your closet.” — Chris Benz

“Both professionally and personally, 2010 is going to be about taking chances and being fearless.” — Peter Som

“[I want] to take Cynthia Steffe to the next level. We have some very exciting projects in the works to grow the brand and continue our expansion overseas. [I would also like] to spend as much time as possible with my daughter. She’s already a year old and growing so fast. I don’t want to miss a second of it.” — Shaun Kearney, Cynthia Steffe

“My personal resolution is to get my driver’s license so I can get a pink Smart car. For business, I want to launch Alice + Olivia shoes.” — Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia

“Personally and professionally, I will attempt to learn Japanese.” Thakoon Panichgul

“Personally, less Facebook, more face time. Also, I have been doing more and more store visits and events recently and it is so amazing to get to know the customer on a more personal level. They are fun and educational and I am focused on continuing this.” — Adam Lippes

“I am going to listen and follow the advice of our mentors, the people who work with me now after [winning] the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. I will also try to continuously offer our client unique and precious clothing made with care and love. And I want to grow and expand our business in a natural way, yet remain faithful to our values and core belief. I would love to find the time to get back to two of my passions. First, I want to paint on a canvas. I love to do portraits. Also, I was reading Gabriel García Márquez’s ‘100 Years of Solitude’ four years ago and still haven’t finished it. I hope to find time to finish that book.” — Sophie Theallet

“My personal resolution should be to go to the gym, but since I know that just won’t happen, I am aiming for something more realistic and will try to become more of a morning person. Professionally, my goal is to find a better balance in dividing my time between business responsibilities and creative ones.”
— Behnaz Sarafpour
